Lake Constance
Lake Constance (also called "Lake of Constance", in German: "Bodensee") is situated between Germany, Austria and Switzerland near the Alps.
It is the largest lake in the German-speaking part of Europe, one of Germany's most famous holiday destinations.
The climate is mild in winter and warm in summer. That's why Lake Constance is known for winegrowing and fruit-growing. In summer, the region is ideal for sunbathing and swimming as well as
for hiking, cycling, diving and sailing. Many beautiful towns wait for your visit, for more information see our ideas for excursions. Furthermore, the Alps, the Swiss metropolis of Zürich, and the Black Forest are within reach for a day trip.
The Town of Meersburg
The small town of Meersburg has 5.543 inhabitants and is one of the best-known destinations at Lake Constance.
The town is characterized by its medieval timbered houses and the baroque New Castle.
The most famous sight is the Old Castle which is said to be the oldest inhabited castle in Germany, its oldest part built in 630.
Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, one of the most important German poets, lived and died in Meersburg, her "Prince's Little House" is now a museum.
The city and her were shown on the German 20 DM banknote before the Euro was introduced as currency. Meersburg is a cultural centre,
situated at the edge of the lake on the slope of a hill. In summer, there is a shuttle bus for going uphill more easily. A ferry leads to the City of Konstanz, excursion boats run to most other towns at the lake.
There is also a newly-built spa and sauna in Meersburg.
Our Guest House
Our holiday flats Erika und Säntisblick are located in a cottage on a hill, directly above the Old Town of Meersburg
at the vineyards near a lookout point. The house is situated in a residential area, away far enough from the through roads and from the crowded city centre (see satellite image).
Nevertheless, it has a central location; for example, most of the large parking sites for tourists are further away from the city centre.
You can reach the Old Town in only 5 minutes downstairs through the vineyards, the lake is about 10 minutes away (walking distance). From the Säntisblick holiday flat you have a direct view on the lake, but
apart from that, you only need to go in front of the house or in our garden, in order to have a great view on Lake Constance and (under good weather conditions) on the Alps
and on Säntis, which is the highest mountain visible from here.
